It was a sad farewell to one of our favourite clients, who is leaving us to return to the US of A. On a positive note, she was rapt with the unique piece of Woods artwork we presented her with (unfortunately there were no Hallmark cards that captured the essence of our relationship).
Best of luck Amy - we know your presence will be greatly missed here and at the YMCA.

Woods had a memorable Christmas Do to finish the year on a high. It started with paintball - where the young ones’ strategy of applying dodgy face paint was not enough to outwit the 3 wise men, who sauntered to a convincing win.

Adrenalin levels only increased from there, with the highest commercially-rafted waterfall in the world waiting for the team at Hokere Falls. Capsizing while descending the waterfall wasn’t in the script - but no damage was done - except maybe a few sleepless nights suffered by certain crew members afterwards.

A great day was capped off with dinner at the stunning Drawing Room restaurant on Maunganui Road - where gifts were exchanged and memories from the year revisited. (See post below for The Drawing Room menus designed by Woods).

We have recently designed the menus, wine list and table sketchbooks for The Drawing Room - a boutique restaurant in downtown Mount Maunganui.

Inspired by cookbook literature, the menus are fitted inside old cookbooks. The wine list is appropriately designed as a book mark. A unique feature is the charming table sketchbook, where customers can leave behind a drawing of their experience at the restaurant.

We’ve just finished a great project with Farmer Autovillage, creating a 30 second TVC for the Bay’s favourite car destination. As long as you don’t channel surf during the prime time ad breaks you may catch the real thing on your television screen at the moment!

Thanks to everyone involved in making our vision a reality. We hope this is the first of many TVCs in 2012!

WOODS Christmas Gift this year. A simple but essential item that we always forget when we go camping. These little guys are so damn useful that we gave everyone a compendium of uses. Plus, you can also get a sneak peek at our NEW Branding.

In late November Woods Creative designer Luke spent a morning with Papamoa College students sharing his experience in the graphic design field at the College Careers Day.

Starting out with some background on who he is, Luke delved into the exciting world of design with some games, examples of work and some snapshots on what it is actually like working as a graphic designer.

Towards the end of the morning students were given a chance to design a name and logo for a ficticious Early Childhood Centre. In 30mins the students gave their best shot at putting their ideas on paper and communicating why their design fits what the centre is all about.

“To Mr Thomas’ Technology class: Amazing ideas class! 30mins is a very short time for a name and logo design, but you ran with it and came up with some very unique and creative ideas, some which really impressed me. Some ideas showed a little more thought than others. The design process is simply a muscle that needs to be continually trained and exercised to get better. I wish you all the best for your interests in the creative fields and hope you can find what you really love to do and give it your best. Thanks class.”

This is what happens when you print a shiny sticker on the wrong setting through our laser! Quite a cool texture effect I must say. Should do it more often… Thanks for opening our eyes to fancy printing effects Pearl.
